Already Ready

Somewhere along the road
toward redemption
Someone saw
a prodigal so frail.
He smelled of swine
& looked as if conviction
had interrupted
hardship & travail.
When asked “Where are you going?
Would you like to sit awhile?”
He responded “No Sir. Thank you.”
I can go another mile.
Chorus
I’m already ready
to be home with father.
He’s already laid out
new shoes & a robe.
He’s already readied
other son’s & daughters
to welcome in
a son away too long.
I’m already ready
to be in my home.

O the paradox
of living in a strange land
when you know deep down inside
it’s not your home.
There’s a gravity
that draws you toward the Heavens
while the load of living here
weighs like a stone.
There are voices in the distance
calling out my name.
For me to live is Christ
to die is truly gain!
